National Royal Rangers Week

Each year, during the first full week of October, National Royal Rangers Week provides a wonderful opportunity for the local church to focus on this incredible ministry of Reaching, Teaching, and Keeping Boys for Christ! Take advantage of this time and highlight this dynamic and effective ministry.

How can you highlight Royal Rangers? Prior to this window of opportunity, the Senior Commander should make a request to the pastor and dedicate a Sunday service to the ministry of Royal Rangers. Honor and recognize the boys that day. Have the boys begin the service by performing a Presentation of Colors Ceremony and by leading the congregation in the flag pledges. Encourage all the boys and commanders to sit together in the service in their uniforms. Have the boys and commanders “Ready” to serve as ushers or perform another type of service as requested by the pastor. Also, be sure to honor the men and women serving as leaders in the Royal Rangers ministry during the service.

This would also be a great opportunity to conduct a Council of Achievement Ceremony to honor the boys’ achievements. The Ceremony should be colorful, lively, and short. An example of how to conduct a Ceremony is found in the Royal Rangers Leaders Manual, GPH #02-2101. If time does not allow the Ceremony to be done during the Sunday service, plan a special banquet during that week with the Council of Achievement Ceremony highlighting the banquet.

Set up a display booth in the church foyer and identify exactly what the Royal Rangers ministry is all about. Have boys and men in uniform at the booth answering questions and inviting interested boys and adults to attend an outpost meeting. This is a prime opportunity to recruit new leaders.

Sponsor several exciting indoor and outdoor activities during that week such as a banquet, campout, hike, field trip, community picnic, etc., and be sure to invite the families of the Ranger boys to participate. Make this a fun week for the whole church, family, and community. Let everyone know of the vital role that Royal Rangers plays in the church and community, as they win and disciple boys and young men for our Master Ranger, Jesus Christ!
